Good for Wall Street and the wealthy CEO's who got bailouts, but it's not doing anything to fix the unemployment rate for anyone else. The unemployment rate where I live is over 10 percent, and the people who are still working are facing pay cuts. I'm facing a 15 percent pay cut right now. Where's my bailout? yes it is. unemployment is ALWAYS the last thing to come back up when a recession is ending, so we CAN NOT expect everything to suddenly be wonderful again in terms of unemployment (a trailing indicator, meaning it indicates how the economy is doing AFTER everything else): companies are still not feeling 100% so they will not begin hiring until they are sure all is well some companies managed increase efficiency when they got rid of people, so they will not re-hire until they are not only doing as well again, but start growing as for the average American, yeah, it sucks, but honestly we helped cause this just like those on Wall St. and in the big banks...if the people hadn't accepted mortgages when they knew the rates would go up and they would not be able to pay for them, when they didn't save a penny 'cause they thought everything would stay exactly as is forever, when people about to retire put their savings in stocks rather than keeping it in bonds or at least mutual funds...maybe we should stop blaming and whining and see if we can step up and find a way to get this all over with sooner

The ONLY reason to "not care" about the stock market is if you have no vested interest in its performance or in the country's economy as a whole. If you own no stocks personally, have no pension or retirement plan, work for a private company that funds its own payroll/accounts receivable/accounts payable out of a box of cash instead of a bank, (and of course provides its clients with goods or services on a "cash only" basis), you have no mortgage, live "off the grid" generating your own electricity & gas and refine your own gasoline and farm all your own food (and you never, ever get sick, so you have no need for scientific and/or medical research) then there would be no real reason for you to care, really... (Unless you wanted a mechanism that encouraged people to start companies and hire people to give them jobs, wages, and so on....then you might....)
